He began his career at the Accountants General Office, where he gained invaluable experience in public sector financial management and accounting. This early exposure laid a strong foundation for his subsequent success in both the corporate and financial sectors. With extensive expertise in accountancy, investment and management, he has successfully led large, diversified conglomerates, guiding teams of up to 5,000 employees. He joined Tradewinds Group (M) Sdn Bhd (“TGM”) as an Advisor in February 2021 and was subsequently appointed to the Board on 4 January 2023. During his tenure, he has played an integral role in shaping strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and profitability within the TGM Group.
He previously served as Chairman of Gas Malaysia Berhad from May 2013 to June 2021, where under his leadership, Gas Malaysia Berhad was awarded two prestigious accolades in the Utilities Sector at The Edge Billion Ringgit Club Corporate Awards 2019 for Highest Return on Equity Over Three Years and Highest Growth in Profit After Tax Over Three Years.
Datuk Hj. Hasni has played pivotal roles in some of Malaysia’s largest infrastructure projects, including the Klang Valley My Rapid Transit (KVMRT), and led various high-profile Initial Public Offerings (“IPOs”). His notable positions include Chairman of Malakoff Corporation Berhad, where he oversaw the largest independent power producer in Malaysia, and Chairman of Gas Malaysia Berhad, where he repositioned the company for long-term success. As the Group Managing Director and CEO of MMC Corporation Berhad, he spearheaded significant growth, including international ventures in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Australia. His leadership extended to the financial sector, with impactful roles such as Managing Director of RHB Asset Management, where he managed RM3.5 billion in assets, and Senior General Manager at the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), overseeing the growth of assets under management from RM72.7 billion to RM186.9 billion. He was also a former Director of EON Capital Berhad, where his leadership contributed to the company’s strategic direction during his tenure.
Datuk Hj. Hasni served as a Director in several influential institutions, where his expertise played a key role in their growth and success. These include MIMB Investment Bank Berhad (formerly Malaysian International Merchant Bankers Berhad), Labuan Reinsurance (L) Ltd, Uni. Asia Life Assurance Berhad and Uni. Asia General Insurance Berhad. His leadership and strategic insights have helped guide these companies through various industry challenges and opportunities, contributing to their development and long-term viability.
Datuk Hj. Hasni holds a Master of Business Administration from United States International University, San Diego, California and a Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) degree from University of Malaya. He is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He has received numerous accolades, including the Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) from the Yang di Pertuan Agong in 2009, the Pingat Jasa Cemerlang (PJC) from the Sultan of Terengganu in 1988, and was conferred the title Ahli Mangku Negara (AMN) by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 1994, reflecting his immense contributions to Malaysia’s corporate landscape.
