TEMPORARY WALKWAY LINKING PENANG SENTRAL AND PENANG FERRY TERMINAL

26 JANUARY 2015, BY

Dear Ferry Users,

As operator of the Penang Ferry, we place a lot of importance on the comfort of our ferry users. We have received some feedback from the public regarding the temporary walkway connecting the Penang Ferry Terminal (Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim) and the new temporary bus and taxi terminal built by Penang Sentral Sdn Bhd (PSSB).

As Penang continues to progress, development of newer facilities is something which we cannot avoid. The move to the new temporary terminal is necessary in order to make way for the development works of the future Integrated Penang Sentral Transport Hub Terminal. As expected, some form of inconvenience will naturally happen when developing a new facility. However, it is short term and in anticipation of better facilities in the future.

According to Penang Sentral Sdn Bhd (developer of the Integrated Penang Sentral Transport Hub Terminal), the new temporary bus and taxi terminal has the following improved facilities:

  1. Free porter services for luggage-carrying ferry users
  2. Wheelchair for the elderly
  3. Buggy service (to be available by end of January)
  4. A new and improved air-conditioned ticketing hall with better facilities, compared to the old terminal that was not air-conditioned with very basic facilities
  5. A total of 33 indoor ticketing counters, new toilets and a ‘surau’,
  6. A total of 28 bays for buses, compared to 26 bays in the old terminal
  7. A total of 47 bays for taxis, compared to 40 bays in the old terminal

In addition, for ease of convenience, Penang Sentral has put up numerous signage and notices prominently throughout the new terminal. Rest assured that Penang Port will continue to work closely with the Management of Penang Sentral Sdn Bhd to further improve the temporary walkway for the comfort and safety of our ferry users.
