The sight of an Australian Submarine partially submerged at the ferry passageway at Penang Port here caused much excitement among ferry users this morning.

A Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) spokesperson said that the submarine, HMAS Sheean, would be docking in the area until this Friday for a joint training session.

Many ferry users were caught by surprise by the proximity of the submarine to the ferry they were travelling on from the island to mainland Penang.

According to the RMN spokesperson, the submarine would continue to make its way to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, for a joint training programme with royal liner Tunku Abdul Rahman before heading back to Western Australia.
