PELPIN

	Cargo and Marine System (PELPIN) is a computerised online real-time system mainly to cater for port billing, cargo operations and port statistics for Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB). The application system was developed by Portrade Dotcom Bhd (previously known as Malitnet Resources Sdn. Bhd.). The system was specifically tailored to PPSB requirement.
	The development of the system commenced in March 1999. The system was divided into two phases. Phase One was commissioned on 1st December 1999 and caters for port billing, financial module and port statistics while Phase Two which caters for cargo and vessel operations was fully commissioned on 1st January 2002.

	The system was initiated for the following reasons:

	a) To cater for Y2K problems for port billing system, Account Receivables and Receipting System. b) To create an efficient working environment.c) To expedite operations execution. c) To expedite operations execution. d) To reduce document processing and invoicing times.


	System features: a) Highly available and fully redundant from a hardware perspective. b) Reduction in duplication of work.
